Tyntesfield Medical Group - Repeat Prescribing Policy
This policy details how repeat prescriptions are managed within your practice, please ensure you are familiar with the policy before requesting repeat prescriptions.
Turnaround It takes 48 hours for a prescription to be generated by the GP Practice. It is recommended that you order your prescription at least three working days before your medication is needed in order for it reach your pharmacy in time.
Early prescription requests If you need your repeat prescription medicines earlier than usual, please specify this along with the reason on your repeat prescription request. Failure to do so may result in your request being rejected. This is because the practice only routinely issues medication that is due within the next seven days.
Overdue medication reviews, bloods tests and monitoring To help GPs and nurses identify people who are due blood tests or medication reviews, reminder messages will be added to repeat prescriptions. You can also double check if you are due a review with your pharmacy or GP practice.
Following these reminders, if you are overdue a review, the practice will reduce the quantities of medicine prescribed to you until the necessary reviews are up to date. Following your review, it will be reverted back to the original quantity.
Urgent prescription request policy
Urgent prescription requests for repeat items will be available after 6pm for collection from the GP Practice or will be sent electronically to a late opening pharmacy. All requests for urgent prescriptions are recorded in patients’ notes.
